Joe Russo at the 2002 Nation's Capital Cup
Weighed in at 194.5! had no clue where that came from, except maybe nerves. was 198 on the dot friday morning, and ate decently all day.
SQUATS - opened with 490. got
1 red, because my feet were on the base of the squat racks. i don't do much of a walkout, 1 little step with each
foot, just to clear the bar from the racks. sorry rdc, but i hate your squat racks. the base is way too big. i
was forced to change from a 2 step walkout to a 4 step walkout, which threw me off a bit. anyway, i thought i was
way shallow. not the case. my friend said i definitely qualified for "convincingly deep."
second attempt, 525. took my 4 step walkout, went down, and my hips came up a bit
too quick. ended up doing half a good morning with 525, but it was good for 2 whites.
third attempt, 535. spotter/loaders screwed me on this one. they gave me the wrong
rack height, then took their time adjusting it. then the bar was way off center. it was totally obvious, but they
waited until i told them to fix it. so they slid the bar over, but then one of the racks was crooked. my friend
wrapped me really tight, so by this time i was in a whole lot of pain from standing there, and now i was pissed
off. i got under the bar to take it off the rack, and because the rack was crooked and i was standing on it to
unrack the bar, my feet were not level. i decided that in my state of mind, it would be better to pass.
but, last year i got a 502, so it was good for a 23 pound PR...

WHEW! 490 is done

NOW for 525!
BENCH was all good for me.
opened with 335. 3 whites, but a little shaky. luckily my friends didn't tell me this, because i went to 355 next.
355, blasted it up.
365, grinded it out for 3 whites.
i have been stuck at 347 for 2 years. finally broke through it for an 18 pound PR.

Joe's 355
DEADLIFT is my best lift, i have done 573 in a couple meets, but today i was just out of it. nerves got the better of me, and i couldn't eat anything during the day. by the time 4:00 came, i was toast. got 550 for my opener, then jumped to 580. nope. took it again. nope. had no energy or desire left, just wanted to go home and sleep. actually fell asleep in my chair between second and third attempts. bad headache, bad mood, bad lifts...
but the day gave me a 1440 total and second to a guy that totalled 1550, but an 18 pound improvement even being way off on my deads
